We were so excited to give Sophie her First Real Bath in our kitchen sink when her umbilical cord finally fell off... It wasn't really the sweet "first" we had hoped for... Afterwards she seemed, well, pretty pissed off... But eventually things were okay!
We had a very special visit from Great Grandma Jean Culver, welcoming her first Great Grandchild. Although Grandma Jean just celbrated her 90th birthday this past December, she insisted on taking the bus over to our apartment for the visit.
As our little bundle arrived in the heart of spring, and the garden outside was so lovely, I had visions of my beautiful newborn pictured among flowers. In reality it was rather chilly, and Sophie was not the happiest to be laid down in the dirt at five days old...
While Sophie was born weighing a healthy 8 pounds, 4 ounces, she lost nearly a pound after birth, and was slow to start gaining it back. Mom and baby had a Nurse-in, spending 24 hours in bed eating and sleeping, which was a relaxing treat, and soon Sophie was gaining her ounces like a champion!
