Orcas Island Memorial Day Weekend

Gettin' a ride in the Ergo from dad while we wait in the Ferry Line in Anacortes.  Thrilling!
Ah, this is more fun!  Sucking on the window as the ferry takes off...
Finally to the island!  It was a gorgeous weekend, Sophie spent many hours assembling and (mostly) disassembling a model ferry boat in the yard.

With a little help from Grammy Kathy, of course!
We also spent some time with Oliver the Dog (Thu and Bryan's pup) who finally sat still for a picture.  Good dog!

A Lovely Dinner Party

Just sitting on my favorite quilt, watching a movie with some toys.
Then to a lovely rooftop dinner party hosted by Jaye Wilkinson, Jon Harmon and Corey Quigley.  Sophie is checking out the planters.
Mmm, Rockfish and Champagne!
Daddy clearly did not get enough to eat, but it was a fabulous time!

Happy Birthday, Sloane!

This afternoon was our friend, Sloane's First Birthday party.  What a perfect day for an ice cream social at Mae's Phinney Ridge Cafe!  It was sweltering hot, as our little flushed Sophie displays!
Sophie's first bite of ice cream!  Mmmmm, strawberry!
Hot hot hot, but not too hot for a trot and twirl around the room in Sophie's birthday present party dress from Meaghan Darling!
We had a great time!

A Day at the Beach!

This weekend, Seattle got a preview of summer with a couple of 90+ degree days (as I post these photos 6 weeks later, we have yet to see that summer....!).  We took advantage and went to Denny Beach just over the hill from our neighborhood.  First we had lunch, here's Sophie sucking on a cucumber slice;
Then to the water!
First sand,
then wet sand,

and splashy splash!  We didn't play in the lake long as the water temperature was still only maybe 50 degrees or so, but Sophie was very curious, and enjoyed it as she does all water!

In the Garden, again.

Dad dresses me in the coolest outfits!  It seems as if no fashion explosion is too great for Sophie's personality, she can handle it!
To the Garden!  Our neighbor Michael does the most beautiful job with our buildings' gardens, and in the Spring it's just the thing you want to stick your baby in and take some pictures, which we did now (Sophie 11 months old)...
...and then (Sophie just 1 week old!)!  Also, when Sophie starts to ask the question, "Where did I come from?", we're going to show her this picture and tell her it's were we found her.

Books 'n Dinner

Ah, the library.  This is one of Sophie's all-time favorite ways to pass the time.  She loves flipping through books and magazines, and always has treated them nicely, no ripping.  It's actually a little unerving at times to watch, but I do appreciate it!

This evening we had dinner with Brian's folks at the Steelhead Diner, where our dear friend, Jaye is a cook.  She is not pictured as she was VERY busy!  But we had a splendid time, and I highly recommend the restaruant if you are looking for an amazing experience in the Pike Place Market!
Sophie got the check.

Excellent Parenting 102

fig. 1.  I know this looks really unsafe, but Sophie LOVES her humidifier.  When it's turned off, she immediately goes and squats down at it like a repair man, often plumber butt included, and turns it back on.  She also is very adept at stepping over the (ahem) power cord.
fig. 2.  Sophie loves pens.  She's kind of obsessed with them.  I know there's that whole "if it fits down a toilet paper tube it's a choking hazard" rule but I figure if she can actually get this whole thing down there, she's ready for the circus.  Also doesn't she look darling in one of her new birthday dresses?
fig. 3.  While this is disguised as a lovely picture of Sophie hanging out with Gigi, note the tube of teething gel protruding from her mouth, and the actual teething toy she is holding in her HANDS.  I rest my case.

A Day at the Market

Heather worked today at Cicada, so Brian took Gigi, Papa and Sophie to the Pike Place Market for the afternoon.  Cruisin' downtown in style!
Gigi bought some gorgeous flowers which Sophie clearly had no interest in, but her mother appreciated them very much!

Presents? I love Presents!

...and tissue paper.  That is cool, too.
Just being cute.
Super sweet dresses for summer!
And books!  Yay for books!
Whew.  Opening gifts is hard work.  Does this birthday thing ever end???

Gigi & Papa Come for a Visit

The morning of Gigi and Papa's visit was full of important things to get done.  Like devour this teething biscuit.
Hello, Papa!
